What is 1st Grade Learning? 

Religion

We will read about Jesus calming the storm and Jesus healing a man who couldn't walk.  We will discuss how Jesus can give us the courage to calm our fears and how he uses his Almighty power to heal us when we are sick.           

Memory:  Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Reading

We will begin a new reading unit on the four seasons.  This week we will read about the stories Every Season and Spring is Here.  

Phonics: Vowel Teams oa and ow

Reading Fluency Skill: Students will decode longer words by breaking them into syllables.  

Spelling: - long vowel o (oa, ow)
5.1 boat, coat, doe, grow, snow, toast, toe, yellow, *about, *would

Writing

This week the students will complete their Best Part of Me writing and also work on writing a persuasive speech.

Grammar:  Adverbs 

Math

Unit 10:  Students will solve compare problems using addition and subtraction and take the Unit 10 Test.

Science

Unit 4:  Weather and Seasons -  The students will learn about the water cycle, clouds and different types of weather

Social Studies

Unit 3 - Jobs:  This week we will learn about needs and wants.

April Chapel OfferingsFor the months of April and May, our chapel offerings will be sent to support the LCC K-9 comfort dogs organization. This ministry, which began in 2008, works to help people through the calming presence of Golden Retrievers.  Thanks to generous donors, this ministry is free for everyone they help. Our contributions can help ensure that this special service continues to be available to those who need it!

Catalog information is linked on that page. 2025 Summer School Classes will begin on Monday, June 16 and run through Thursday, July 24. 

Reading Road Race Rally -   The reading log that was sent home will be used for our Reading Road Race Rally.  We will participate in this with Mrs. Boyce's class.  Please have your child read at least 20 minutes, 4 times a week.  A star should be colored in for each reading session.

March Chapel Offerings - Journeys Lutheran School is a unique school found south of the Milwaukee area. Journeys is unique because it provides quality education for children with learning difficulties in a Lutheran school environment.  Their staff is trained, experienced, and equipped to guide and teach students with learning difficulties such as ADD/ADHD, anxiety disorders, Autism spectrum, Behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, sensory disorders, and more. They provide special programs, small class sizes, a tailored curriculum, and a place to belong.

Snack and water bottles-    Please send a healthy snack with your child each day.  I will have extra snacks available in case it is forgotten on a busy morning.  Waterbottles can be used throughout the day and can be refilled at the drinking fountain.
